Online Dating

  • Like many people out there, I use online dating sites to try and find the right woman for me.  The trouble is, what sites are good and which are bad?  If you’re getting lots of emails from girls (or  guys for you women reading this) who want you to look at their cams, then that site may be bad or at least the people sending the emails are fake.   Beware of these people, they try to lure you intomouseheart

signing up with various web cam sites before you can meet them. You might also get people who are from Russia or a lot of times in my experience, women from Ghana.  They usually try to get you to “help” them with money to come back to the states or some other reason to get you to give them money.

I’m on many different websites to try and find the girl for me.  I’m on eHarmony, Yahoo Personals, Match, Matchmaker and more.  These all have the ability to search for potential matches, usually

by some search criteria.   Sometimes you can look at profiles for free, but in order to contact them, you have to pay some sort of fee.  Most of them are pretty reasonable, esp if you pay for 3 months or more at a time.

eHarmony is a Christian based personals website that  matches you with someone based on 29 dimensions of personality that are scientifically-based predictors of long-term relationship success.     Apparently, every day, an average of 236 singles marry a match they found on eHarmony.  If that’s true, why am I still single?  I’ve been on there for a couple years now and I have yet to have gotten a decent match. I would normally sign up for 3 months at a time, which costs $59.  During that time, I get very few matches, until the end when my 3 months is ending and then I get matches, although, usually not very good ones.

Yahoo Personals is apparently one of the most popular personals sites on the web, thanks to linking directly to Yahoo, which is one of the world’s most popular portals.   You sign up and make up a profile, which then gets added to Yahoo Personals search engine.  When people search for someone and something they’re searching for matches criteria of yours, you become a match for them.  You can do a search based on many different criteria, ethnicity, body type, eye color, marital status, want (more) kids, do they smoke, religion and much more.  You can save this search and whenever you come onto Yahoo Personals, you can use your named search and it will bring up your latest matches.  You can also get matches sent to you via your email, so every day you have a chance of communicating with that special someone.

Match.com, is the leading online dating resource for singles. You can search thousands of personals and photos.  It’s free to look, but then if you want to do more, you have to pay.  A 30-day commitment costs about a $1 a day or 29.99.  If you extend your membership, the price drops.  You can also sign up for the 6 month guarantee, which costs about $101.  If at the end of the 6 months you dont find anyone, you get your money back.  I signed up for that about 4 months ago and so far I haven’t been able to find anyone. Sure, I’ve gotten plenty of matches, usually 5 matches a day, but I rarely hear from any of them. So, unfortunatly for my love life, but fortunate for my wallet, I’ll probably be getting that money back.

Matchmaker is an online personals website for the marriage minded single. Matchmaker is one of the oldest dating sites on the Internet, as they started back in 1986 as a Bulletin Board System (BBS).  This site has over 2 million registered singles and has 50,000 new single men and single women joining every week.  Matchmaker offers a free membership that allows you to post a profile and perform searches to find your match, but you are unable to communicate with members unless you pay.  Paid members do receive higher ranking in search results. If people see that you are serious enough to pay, then they know that you will take online dating a lot more serious.

To find the right dating site for you, try signing up for a month.  If you havent gotten any potential matches by then, try another site.  If you can afford a 3 month payment, go with that or just go with what you can afford.  Also, be sure no matter what site you decide to go with, don’t exaggerate your information, be honest and post a recent picture.  If you happen to meet someone, you don’t want to start off your new relationship with lies, so be honest no matter what.  If someone doesn’t like you for your real self, then they’re not for you.  The person who is meant for you is out there somewhere.  Now, go sign-up on a dating site and find your match.
